Makora Spotlight

The story of the Makora originates back in the early 90s, during a trade show Anthony Marfione attended to promote Microtech Knives. While there, Tony met Deepak and Deepika Chopra, owners of the California knife store Deepak Chopra (still a current Authorized Dealer!). When showing the couple the original prototype, which featured a double glass breaker reminiscent of insect fangs, Deepika said the knife reminded her of an ant, termed “Makora” in their home country of India. And so the Makora got its name, along with a deep-engraved insect on the pocket clip to signify its meaning. The knife was officially released to the public in 2003.

How is the new Makora different from the old?

Over 28 years later, the Makora is now being re-released in our Signature Series lineup with updated, modern features. Similar in size to the Ultratech, the all-new Makora has a shorter blade than the original, and weighs one ounce lighter. Classic Microtech proprietary screws replace the past torx screws, Though a single glass breaker takes the place of the original double breaker design, the Makora has kept its insect-inspired symbol and namesake. The Makora retains its powerful OTF internal mechanism, now with nickel-boron coated internals. DLC protects all angles of the knife for extreme durability.

Makora design features and specifications

The all-new Makora has an overall length (when deployed) of 8.5 inches, a blade length of 3.3 inches, and a weight of 3.3 ounces. Nickel-boron coated internals function smoothly and offer excellent corrosion resistance, while full DLC coating protects the hardware, pocket clip, glass breaker, and M390 blade. The body features a 3M anti-slip traction insert for unprecedented grip. The pocket clip still displays a deep-engraved Makora insect, with the addition of Anthony Marfione’s signature.
